Machine Learning Engineer
Contribute to AI innovations that strengthen the Netherlands
Apply your ML expertise to projects with direct societal impact
Become part of the largest AI community in the Netherlands
Work with AI teams from the most leading Dutch organizations
From predicting emergency care and bed capacity in hospitals to preventing food waste in aviation where thousands of kilos of food are saved annually: AI is changing how the Netherlands works. At KickstartAI, we accelerate the adoption of AI in the Netherlands by working on urgent societal challenges. Our AI projects have a direct impact on health, sustainability, and the quality of life in the Netherlands.
Your unique role in the Dutch AI ecosystem
As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will work independently on solving complex problems and contribute to the adoption of AI in the Netherlands by developing and implementing ML solutions with our partners. You take ownership of your work and know how to creatively adapt and apply ML methods to real-world challenges.
You will work closely with Machine Learning Project Managers and engineers, both within KickstartAI and at our partner companies, to ensure that your technical solutions contribute to sustainable impact. Through your growing expertise, you can mentor junior colleagues and actively contribute to improving best practices within the team.
What you will do as a Machine Learning Engineer
You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable machine learning solutions that meet the needs of our partners. This includes the complete lifecycle of ML projects: from data engineering and model development to experimentation, implementation, and monitoring. Additionally, you will focus on implementing MLOps best practices and work on projects with direct societal impact. As part of projects, you will organize or participate in 3-week Challenges: sessions where ideas are quickly transformed into workable AI solutions with engineers from our partner companies – not a casual hackathon, but a structured process with clear impact. By actively sharing knowledge, you contribute to the adoption of AI within our partner companies and the broader AI community. In concrete terms, you will:
Manage the complete ML lifecycle: from data engineering and model development to experimentation, implementation, and monitoring in production
Implement MLOps best practices to set up reliable and efficient ML systems
Work on projects with direct societal impact within sectors such as healthcare, sustainability, and logistics
Actively share knowledge within the AI community and contribute to the adoption of AI at partner companies
What we are looking for
2-5 years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer
Strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to independently apply ML methods to moderately complex problems
Experience with MLOps, model implementation, and monitoring of machine learning models in production

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
A proactive attitude and the motivation to continuously learn and share knowledge within the community
